Aerospace Machining Engineer

Summary/Purpose:
- This position is responsible for:
- developing machining process plans(CNC programs) for simple to complex aerospace parts for commercial or Department of Defense projects
- using TechSolve proprietary software to develop process based models of machining process plan options and use software output to satisfy customer’s objectives such as achieving reduction in cost or cycle time, improved sourcing capability, lowered scrap levels, etc.
- managing multiple projects, collection of data (drawings, 3D models, process specifications etc.), analyses of data, and presentation of data to meet the expectations of Machining Services customers,
- providing assistance to improve client-company machining processes and performance.
The assistance and optimization services include helping companies in identifying and implementing the most effective ways to use the basic factors of production (people, machines, materials and information) to make or process a product in ways that best support the client company’s overall business strategy.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Independently or collaboratively develop machining process plans for simple to complex aerospace commercial or Department of Defense parts. Process plans will include order of operations, selection of fixturing, cutting tools, machining parameters, required post processing and manual operations, and minor assembly as required. Process plan will be entered into TechSolve proprietary software to determine process runtime and total costs. Recommend alternative methods of manufacture and engineering design changes to reduce overall cost of production.
- Build and maintain confidence of client-company decision-makers by exposing them to and educating them about best machining strategies and practices, and modern technologies. Prepare and present briefings and reports to personnel at client companies, either virtually or in person. Effectively interface with client personnel at all organizational levels.
- Conduct client site-visits and conduct assessments and operations review to identify needs and opportunities.
- Support the establishment and control of project proposals or budgets. Consult with appropriate Machining and project team members to resolve any problems or to discuss progress. Make internal presentations to review status of projects as required. Assess results of completed projects and recommend improvements in methods or materials. Provide timely internal reports to management (e.g. project reports, expense reports, timecards, etc.).
- Research and develop work in the area of machining and grinding. Develop, test and analyze advanced techniques to increase knowledge of advanced machining systems and aid in the transition of that knowledge to industry.
- Support effective working relationships with TechSolve staff and with a network of technical resources.
- Maintain active awareness of manufacturing technologies and techniques through professional development programs, especially state of the practice information concerning machining.

Additional Requirements/Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
Must be a US Citizen. Minimum of a BS degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering is preferred; however, non-degreed individuals possessing significant experience in CNC program development will be considered. Advanced degree a plus.
Minimum of 5 years experience in aerospace industry at either the OEM or supplier level is a prerequisite.
Support of Integrated Product Teams (IPT’s) in the past is highly desirable, with Design for Manufacturability experience a plus. Position requires project management skills along with machining experience. Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (Unigrahics, Catia, etc.) is a requirement in the performance of job duties. Vericut software training a plus.
Language Skills:
Strong customer facing skills are essential. Must be able to communicate effectively with client personnel and employees at all organizational levels and develop effective working relationships with staff and a network of technical resources. This includes making presentations and presenting timely reports to management.
Reasoning Ability:
Individual must be a team player with the ability to exercise independent, sound judgment and discretion; be able to plan; be well organized with the ability to multi-task; have excellent oral and written communication skills; work well under pressure; take initiative; and be flexible and cooperative.
Physical Demands:
Position requires the ability to sit for long periods at a computer terminal. Some working, standing and bending are required.
Work Environment:
Normal office environment and standard hours with occasional overtime required. Requires the ability to travel by aircraft and automobile to remote locations as needed, and the ability to drive/operate an automobile. Co-location (in the Cincinnati area, or at the client’s facility) for extended times is a possibility.
