Creating Internal Capability to Perform Process Improvement Events
Company Profile: The City of Montgomery, Ohio, is located in northeastern Hamilton County, 12 miles from Cincinnati. Founded in 1795, the City was incorporated in 1910 and now has over 10,000 residents. Although the City encompasses only 5.2 square miles, it is an integral part of the Cincinnati metropolitan area and is known to be very progressive with regards to excellent management and improvement techniques.
Project: Eager to further the City’s dedication to delivering top-quality services, staff members created an Efficiency and Effectiveness Team. The team’s goal was to benchmark the City’s services against other similar cities, identify lagging services, and address deficiencies. To facilitate the success of that team, Montgomery collaborated with TechSolve.
Montgomery’s Efficiency and Effectiveness Team worked with TechSolve to streamline three of the City’s main work processes. Together, they eliminated redundant steps, standardized processes and documents, and (where appropriate) converted operations into ones that could be completed electronically.
Results: By driving inefficiencies out of their work processes, the City of Montgomery has improved the quality of services it provides to its residents and businesses. The project has yielded new processes with:
- Reduced procurement process lead time by 69% (28 to 8.5 days)
- Reduced building permit process lead time by 36%
- Decreased an annual Public Works project lead time by 50% (from 18 to 9 days)
Montgomery’s team was also trained by TechSolve to lead additional process improvement events in the future, and the team will ensure the continuation and sustainment of the City’s improvements.
“While working with TechSolve, we found that their approach to business closely mirrored the values that we possess as an organization, and so a strong partnership was formed. We cannot thank the TechSolve team enough for their efforts.”
