As a consultant that aids manufacturers with DFARS Clause 252.204.7012 cybersecurity compliance within the NIST SP 800-171 framework, TechSolve closely monitors the latest updates concerning DFARS compliance. Despite COVID-19, much to everyone’s anticipation, CMMC is still moving forward and is set to appear in contracts later this year.

CMMC-AB Opens Application Process for Cyber Assessors

On Monday, The CMMC Accreditation Body (CMMC-AB) opened the application process for its cyber assessors. This news is one of the most significant the Department of Defense (DoD) has released since the initial Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification announcement in January. This important milestone for the CMMC program identifies and approves certified third-party assessment organizations (C3PAOs), the umbrella organizations that will manage individual cybersecurity assessors, and certified professionals, the experts who will perform the cyber assessments the DoD will require from each of its suppliers.

By 2025, all DoD suppliers will need CMMC certification. Upon approval by the CMMC-AB, certification will last 3 years.

New Legislation Proposes Cybersecurity Grants for Defense Manufacturers

There is also a new proposed bipartisan bill that would provide grant funding to aid cybersecurity assistance for small manufacturers seeking to reach CMMC compliance. If passed, the DoD would be authorized to issue funds to Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) Centers, like TechSolve, with the intent of helping small manufacturers reach compliance.

This is a BIG NEWS for defense manufacturers looking to maintain compliance and bid on RFPs. Please stay tuned. TechSolve will actively provide updates as new information and reports are released concerning CMMC.
